Following their recent win in the Royston and Villages Tennis Tournament, four pupils from Tannery Drift represented the school (and town) in the Hertfordshire Schools Tennis Finals in Welwyn.
The children arrived for the day well-prepared and eager to compete, and were welcomed warmly with congratulations on the amazing achievement of progressing to this stage of the tournament.
The schools were split into 2 pools, with the children then playing against each of the other schools in their pool.
Our team played some fantastic tennis, only losing in their pool to one other team, from Haberdashers Independent School.
The Tannery Drift team was then through to the semi-finals, playing the winning school from the other pool, who we’re delighted to say they beat, which put them through to the Grand Final, playing Haberdashers Independent School for the second time!
After some nail-biting matches, Tannery Drift won silver, finishing second place in the tournament out of over 400 Primary Schools!
Throughout the day, the children demonstrated fantastic teamwork and support for one another and should be so proud of this fantastic achievement. Mrs Greetham and the school tennis coach, Matt Fellingham, could not be prouder of the team’s performance. Well done Charlotte, Georgina, Girvan and Joel!
With many faces leaving FTDS at the end of this term and roles becoming vacant, we are holding our Annual General Meeting in advance of our general meeting on Monday 23rd June. We will be voting in new committee members, reviewing the previous year, and planning upcoming events.
If anyone is interested in named Committee roles for our AGM, or has any queries, then please email us at friendsoftannerydriftschool@gmail.com. As mentioned, we are always grateful to our volunteers who generously give their time to help at events, but we also need people to join the committee, attend our meetings and plan the events - otherwise there won’t be any events to help out at! We look forward to seeing you there. If you would prefer to join the meeting virtually, then please email us for the link.
Our Reception classes have been learning about the story of Supertato this week. They have been discussing the characters, the narrative and finding words to describe the kind and evil main characters. As you can see the children have also been making their very own Super-potatoes, which look amazing!
On Wednesday 11th June, we were delighted to enter four teams of Year 3 & 4 pupils into the Royston and Villages Tennis Tournament, held on Royston Heath. The children all played fantastically, showed great support for one another and should be really proud of themselves.
We are happy to announce that one of our teams was the overall winner of the tournament, and they now move on to playing in the County final against schools from all over Hertfordshire.
Wishing our team the best of luck in the next round!
This year's Empathy Festival runs from 2nd June-12th June.
