Welcome to a new academic year at Tannery Drift. Warm greetings to all the new families who are joining the school community. We hope that your child will flourish under our care and that you will enjoy your association with our school. The staff have been busy preparing for their new classes and it has been wonderful to see what a positive start the children have made.
This week our Year 3 & 4 children wowed audiences with their performance of Matilda the Musical Jr.
Our Nursery and Reception children took part in their own sports day this week. After competing in the relay, the egg and spoon and the sack race, they took on an obstacle course before enjoying a picnic in the Early Years garden with their families and friends.
Following their success at the Royston and Buntingford Schools tennis tournament earlier in June, the Tannery Drift first team qualified for the county finals. They travelled to Welwyn to compete against children from 11 other schools from across Hertfordshire. They faced tough competition but played their very best and came away with silver medals. Well done to Henry, Joshua, Corinne and Eloise!
As part of Sports Week all the children took part in Sports Day.
For KS1 & KS2 Sports Day the children took part in a variety of races: running, skipping and the sack race. They also tackled an obstacle course, took part in a relay and enjoyed the cup & water race.
The final placings were:
6th Golden Eagles 53
5th White Rhinos 66
4th Blue Whales 69
3rd Green Turtles 71
2nd Black Bears 73
1st Red Squirrels 81
Well done to all the children for displaying the Tannery Drift values of enjoyment, achievement and respect.
We were delighted to welcome families of children who have music lessons in school to an afternoon concert on Thursday. It was a wonderful celebration of the musical talent at Tannery Drift, and the audience were treated to a variety of pieces played on the piano, violin, recorder, guitar, cornet and trumpet. Well done to all of our musicians.
Year 1 loved their trip to Mountfitchet Castle as part of their Castles topic in History. They were very excited to spot all the features of castles that they had learnt about as well as having a go at all the activities! They enjoyed seeing how good their sword fighting and jousting skills were, as well as trying on a variety of helmets – they couldn’t believe how heavy they were! They loved testing their strength when trying their hands at archery and using the catapults.
