We have recently planted a young Mountain Ash tree in our wildlife area, in memory of Tannery Drift teacher Mrs Grainger, who sadly passed away in March 2024. The Mountain Ash is said to bring balance and harmony whilst also representing guidance and wisdom, which feels like the perfect tribute to a much-missed teacher. Accompanying the tree is a plaque, in memoriam to Mrs Grainger.
Between Friday 23rd and Sunday 25th January we are encouraging pupils and their families to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Simply choose an hour during those days and make a note of all the birds which land on your patch in that time. If you like to you can then submit your findings to the RSPB to be part of the Big Garden Birdwatch 2026!

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Lauren from Perform to Tannery Drift as our workshop leader.
Lauren worked with class groups from Nursery through to Year 2, to guide them through imaginative drama workshops, centred around a magical toyshop, where teddies, trains and dolls come alive at night!
The workshops combined movement, role-play and storytelling; supporting learning in English and physical development (as well as linking to the topic on toys for Year 1!)
The children had a wonderful time engaging with these sessions, and it was great to see our youngest pupils take part with so much concentration and enthusiasm.
Wishing all of our families a Happy New Year! We are pleased to have welcomed the children back to school this week for the start of the Spring term.
An end of term message from Mrs Greetham
On Tuesday it was our annual Carol Service for Year 3 & 4, held in St John the Baptist Church. It was a lovely event filled with Christmas joy, and the children sang and delivered their readings beautifully. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
Over the past 2 weeks, Year 3 have had the lovely opportunity to do some Christmas cookie baking in small groups with Mrs Simons.
We are very grateful to Mrs Simons, a former Tannery Drift teacher, who continues to bring her energy and enthusiasm to our school community.
Christmas events are in full swing at school, with Reception and Nursery performing their Christmas shows last week.

Open for Christmas Posting from 1st December!
The Christmas Fair is only one week away, and we have lots planned! There’ll be games stalls, including a lucky dip, elf on the shelf, human fruit machine, along with selling Christmas stock, books, crafts, and refreshments (mulled wine and hot chocolate will be ready to go!).
Entry into the raffle will close NEXT Thursday 27th. You will not be able to enter the draw after this day. Please make sure you fill in your details on all the ticket stubs you wish to purchase and return those with the correct cash in an envelope to the school office.
If you would like any additional booklets then you can get these from the office on a first come, first served basis.
Cake donations
We are asking Year 1 and 2 parents for cake/biscuit donations to be brought into the school office from Wednesday 26th, with homemade items in the morning of Friday 29th.
***Please ensure that the donations are nut free, which includes marzipan and almond***
Volunteers
If you are able to help, even if just for 30mins at set up or to run a games stall, ladle mulled wine into cups etc, then your help is really appreciated! Please let us know: friendsoftannerydriftschool@gmail.com
Tokens
We will be running a token system alongside card payments. Tokens can be used at all the games stalls as well as refreshments and to purchase stock. Tokens are valued at 50p each with a minimum of 10 tokens for £5.
To minimise queues on the day, there will be an opportunity to buy your tokens from outside the school office at drop off on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th (as well as at the Fair itself).
